Editorial Policy: How We Research and Review

This page explains how we choose topics, research and write our content, review it for accuracy, and keep it up to date.

How we research

Every article starts with primary and authoritative sources. We prioritize, in this order:

  • Systematic reviews and meta-analyses, such as Cochrane reviews
  • Randomized controlled trials published in peer-reviewed journals
  • Guidance from health authorities, such as the NIH, FDA, European Medicines Agency and national health services
  • Smaller studies, lab and animal research, clearly labeled as early evidence
  • Manufacturer materials, used only to describe what a product claims

We don't rely on press releases, other review sites or testimonials as evidence that a product works.

How we rate evidence

When we describe ingredients, we use a simple scale so readers can see how solid a claim is:

  • Strong: consistent results from multiple well-designed trials or systematic reviews
  • Moderate: supported by randomized trials or a systematic review, with some limitations
  • Limited: small, mixed or indirect studies
  • Early: mainly lab or animal research

We rate evidence for the specific use being discussed, such as UTI prevention, not for health in general.

Medical review

Health content is reviewed by QuocNguyen, Biochemist before publication and when it's significantly updated. The reviewer checks that claims match the cited sources, that safety information is complete, and that readers are directed to medical care where appropriate. The reviewer's name and the last update date appear at the top of each article.

How we review products

Our product reviews are based on research and analysis, not on clinical testing. For each product we examine the ingredient list and label, check each ingredient against published research, look for safety issues and drug interactions, compare cost and value with alternatives, and review the refund policy and how the product is sold.

Scores reflect our judgment across these areas. Commissions don't change our ratings, and we include drawbacks even for products we link to.

Independence and affiliate links

We earn a commission when readers buy through some of our links. This helps pay for the site. Brands do not pay for coverage, cannot review content before it's published, and cannot buy a higher rating. Affiliate links are marked with rel="sponsored". Full details are in our affiliate disclosure.

Updates and corrections

We review our main pages at least every six months, and sooner when new research, prices or product information changes. If you spot an error, contact us at [email address]. We correct factual mistakes promptly and note significant corrections at the end of the article.

Use of tools

[Describe honestly whether and how you use AI or other writing tools, e.g.: "We may use software tools to help draft or edit content. Every article is fact-checked against original sources and reviewed by a person before publication."]
